SLOVENIA

Malvasija, Vitovska & Terran

Slovenia shares a border and much of its winemaking history with its Italian neighbour, Friuli. The roads in the Gorizia hills weave in and out of both countries and the grapes are the same, with a few simply changing name: Malvasija (Malvasia), Rebula (Ribolla Gialla) and Terran (Refosco). The hills behind Trieste are known as the Kras and are renowned for their rocky limestone soil. This is where you’ll find Marko Fon, one of Slovenia’s best wineries.
